ENSI

The National Higher Education Institute of Engineering (ENSI) is one of the most prestigious institutes of Université de Lomé (UL). It is the result of the 1985 transformation of the former École Supérieure de Mécanique Appliquée (Higher Education Institute  of Applied Mechanics) (ESMI), created by the decree No. 72-181/PR on September 5, 1972. ENSI offers trainings to engineers and senior technicians in the domains of Construction and Public works, energy and industrial mechanics.

ENSI’s mission consists in:

  • training design engineers and senior technicians (civil engineers);
  • conducting basic and applied research and ensuring provision of services.

ENSI is under the supervision of a Director assisted by a deputy. The administrative structure is composed of :

  • Institute Assembly (the executive organ)
  • Direction
  • Examination Department
  • Secretary’s Office
  • Educational Information Unit (CIP) 
  • Finance and Budget Commission
  • Internal Quality Insurance Unit.

INSE offers three types of training in the field of Science and Technologies (ST)

  • Civil Engineering (BA, Masters/Engineer, PhD)
  • Electrical Engineering and Industrial IT (BA, Masters/Engineer, PhD)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BA, Masters/Engineer, PhD).

Training offered by INSE leads to various skills and different opportunities as follows:

Ø  Civil Engineering

Students who graduate in civil engineering are able to develop the following skills: determine the functioning of buildings, bridges, roads, and hydraulic structures, and most importantly the different types and features; master the different plans of buildings, roads, bridges, and hydraulic structures; assure the permanent control during their construction.

They can be employed by technical and commercial services of building materials, buildings, and roads.

Ø  Electrical Engineering and Industrial IT

Students in this field have the access to new technologies (senior technicians and engineers). They specialized in the following domains:  

  • Electrotechnics (Electricity or high current): they can work in the domain of production, transportation, and supply of electricity or maintenance. These students are real experts in the field of automation. They can be employed in enterprises and industries in demand of their expertise as experienced technicians and engineers.
  • Electronics (slow current): integrated circuits to power electronics, and electronic devices like GSM terminals, these students acquire many skills in electronics upon completing their training. These skills help them work on industrial and different types of circuits. They will be able to get more knowledge concerning the new tools in technology.
  • Computer Science: students who major in civil engineering are also computer scientist. They acquire some skills that allow them to set a technological network, or operate as administrators. At the end of his training, they become good programmers mastering many programming tools such as Pascal, Delphi, C, C++, Java, Assembler, SQL, etc. They can work as application developers and also maintenance technicians thanks to some courses and practical works on computer architecture and electronics.

Such students have the opportunities to work as electro-technical engineers, electronic engineers, or computer scientists.

Ø  Mechanical engineering

Mechanical engineering majors can manage maintenance of industrial production, can do programming and maintenance operations of automated equipment. They can coordinate and conduct research project of installation, conceive and achieve a mechanical connection. They also have the possibility to conceive a mechanical connection automatism.

Upon completing their training the senior technicians or engineers in mechanical engineering generally have the following type of profiles:

-        good knowledge of methodic organization and maintenance

-        advanced knowledge of applied mechanics of solid bodies and liquids ;

-        good knowledge of measurement techniques, designing, computer science and languages ;

-        good command of notions of management and economics’;

-        coaching of laborers in achieving, controlling, and maintenance of industrial production systems.

Upon completing their training students are very useful for enterprises of industrial production. They can hold positions of management and industrial maintenance, installation and the improvement of production processes.

Administration

ENSI enjoys good partnership with public and private administrations, in particular the Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications et Postes (Telecommunication Regulation Authority), Togo télécom, Sodigaz, T-Oil, and Total.
